INTERVIEW: Tarra Layne

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Cherry Moonshine”?

Cherry Moonshine is my favorite song I’ve written so far.  It’s demonstrates the raw, fun-loving, playful side of me and I always want to remain real when expressing myself as an artist. It blends rock, blues, & southern soul in a really cool new way.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

I wrote the song about myself and my party days with good friends. Personal experience I guess. 🙂

How was the recording and writing process?

The recording process was a bit longer than usual. We really wanted it to reach a place where I visually saw the music. When it finally reached that place where I could feel it and see myself, we let ‘er rip!

Known for having worked with some GRAMMY winning artists in the past – how has this experience shape you as the artist you are today?

It’s inspiring. It makes you more determined to reach your goals and perfect your craft.

How has your upbringing have influence you?

It influences everything. Where I come from and how I was raised is who I am, thus how I express myself and what I write about.

What role does Nashville play in your music?

I’ve spent significant time in Nashville and as writer, it’s an amazing place. I definitely pull from country songwriting, which is storytelling and I love storytelling.

When you are writing music for films and other projects – do you tend to take a different approach than when you are writing for your own solo project?

I haven’t had a chance to write for movies yet, but cannot wait to have an opportunity to do so! I feel it would be a different approach in that you are writing for the themes in the movie, not necessarily from personal experience.

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes! Very soon! Make sure you tune in to catch new tour dates!

What else is happening next in Tarra Layne’s world?

I am the lead singer on Mattel’s new release, “Welcome to Monster High.” It is out on DVD September 27th! It is on iTunes now and the soundtrack includes:

Better Together:

We Are Monstars:

Feeling So Amazing:

I’m also looking forward to my next music release in early 2017, touring, and even more fun opportunities!
