Warpaint debut “Whiteout,” the second track from their highly anticipated third album Heads Up, today—listen here and buy/stream here. Heads Up is out this Friday, September 23.
Warpaint’s extensive North American tour kicks off tonight at Seattle’s Showbox, with further dates October 7 and 8 in New York, October 13 in Los Angeles, November 12 in Nashville, November 17 in Austin and many more. Facial, Goldensuns and VS Colour will support on select dates. See below for full tour details.
Heads Up was recorded after the band spent 2015 apart working on solo projects and their own endeavors. Reuniting in January of this year, the band invited producer Jacob Bercovici—with whom they had worked on their debut EP Exquisite Corpse—into their House on the Hill studio in Downtown Los Angeles to begin work on the new LP. For the first time ever, the band recorded in pairs and alone rather than as a full band, allowing for a new creative freedom.
The band also reworked their live sound to reflect their critically acclaimed live performances. “We’ve always had this really jammy, high-energy live show compared to some of our records,” says vocalist and guitarist Emily Kokal. “We all love to dance. We didn’t want to take away from the emotion or the core feeling of what our band is all about—which I don’t even think we could take out if we wanted, because it is who we are—but we wanted to bump the speed up and have a little bit more fun.”
Warpaint is Emily Kokal (guitar, vocals), Jenny Lee Lindberg (bass, vocals), Stella Mozgawa (drums, vocals) and Theresa Wayman (guitar, vocals). Heads Up follows their critically beloved debut EP Exquisite Corpse, 2010’s The Fool and 2014’s Warpaint.
