INTERVIEW: Riley Flood

Hi Riley, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’ve been Great! Just trying to keep busy.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Sunshine”?

Sunshine is a Rock Song rooted in blues music with Psychedelic Rock influences, extensive vamping and a guitar solo. I’ve been wondering a lot lately why guitar solos don’t seem to be popular anymore, it really bothers me.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

I don’t usually like to talk too much about what personal events inspired a song because I think it disables the listener, to a certain extent, from relating it to their own experiences. However I will say the song was inspired by the sort of short lived, volatile and doom driven relationship that I think many people experience – quick to get over but still momentarily enraging.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

I do hope to release a video with this particular single but I have yet to come up with a concept for it, or decide on a team to help me accomplish it so I wouldn’t hold my breath over it.

The single comes off your new album – any title in mind?

The Album has been titled “Phases”.

How was the recording and writing process?

As the title suggests the writing process was long because the songs go over various phases of my life, I went back and rehashed  some old songs to try and create something that would reflect that. The recording process was much easier, just got some old friends in the studio and got it done.

What classical bands get to influence this album?

I would say Led Zeppelin and The Beach Boys had the biggest impact on this album, I know that’s a pretty dramatic contrast but most of my music seems to end up somewhere between those two on the spectrum of genres.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

As I stated the inspiration came from various times in my life, some things that happened so long ago I hardly remember what they were about. Those songs were the most fun from a production standpoint because they can be approached without bias.

Any plans to hit the road?

Not in the Immediate future, Possibly Spring or Summer though!

What else is happening next in Riley Flood’s world?

Right now I’m starting work on a second EP, it’s still too early in the process to say what the overall concept will be but I’m excited!
