INTERVIEW: Woke Up Waiting

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Good! Thanks for taking the time to ask us some questions. We’ve been super busy writing and recording the EP but it’s all kinda coming to a close now so we’re stoked on that.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Best of Me”?

“Best of Me” is our debut single that we recently released and we’re really happy with the feedback and reaction we’ve gotten from it. It was kind of nerve-wracking releasing it because it was our first song and it was going to define who we are as a band. All in all we’re super happy with it and can’t wait to release some more originals.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

It’s really just a classic breakup song with a bit of an edgy rock tone to it. There wasn’t really a specific event that lead to writing the song, just feelings from teenage years about having girl problems that turned out to be very insignificant in years to come. Teenage exaggeration I guess you could call it.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yep! We’ve been talking about a video for it for a while now and we’re finally just about done planning it. We’re aiming to film it around late September-Early October and it should be released late October.

The single comes off your new album Better Off This Way – what’s the story behind the title?

The title is very reflective of the songs on the EP. They all tell a different story about our past, and kind of talk about struggles or hardships we’ve been through. Even though it may have seemed like it was the end of the world at the time, it really helped carve us into who we are as people now; hence the title “Better Off This Way”.

How was the recording and writing process?

The writing process was actually the easiest part. We all took songs we wrote from years ago and brought them back to life, adding some more bells and whistles to them to make them into real solid songs. We began recording the EP way back in February and chipped away at it now and then, but finally locked ourselves in the studio for an entire week and finished it. We’re now in the final stages of mixing and are releasing it October 20th.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

All the lyrics are from life experiences and stories from our youth. We wrote most of these songs years ago and none of them were used by our old bands/projects, so we took our favorite song each and put it on the EP. The lyrics are about heartbreak, straying off the “right” path while growing up, and just taking life head on.

Any plans to hit the road?

Hopefully! We are in the midst of planning some local acoustic shows to get warmed up and then we really want to head down south to America for our first tour. For the meantime our EP will have to hold you over.

What else is happening next in Woke Up Waiting’s world?

We’re already talking about recording an acoustic EP with 1 or 2 songs off the EP stripped down to raw acoustic tracks, and 3-4 brand new acoustic tracks. There is tons of covers coming out, the EP, and probably a single or two in the New Year.
