INTERVIEW: GAWVI

Hi Gawvi, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hey, thank you for having me! I’ve been great, excited about my 2 EP’s “Lost In Hue” & “Holding Hue” finally out in stores!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Desire”?

Desire’s is one of my favorite songs right now! It’s basically about walking in support of a friend or loved one’s dreams and desires. I got to create this song with an old friend of mine that I met in LA when we both were creating music at Rodney Jerkins studio. We have great memories there so it was fun to once again link up.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

Yes! I’ve been married for 2 and a half years now, and I’ve realized that instead of always trying to give an answer to my wife, she just wants me there in support sometimes. So just being there for her inspired this song.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yea we are in the works to do a music video for “Desire” & “Don’t have to feel sorry”. I’m very excited about those!

The single comes off your new album Holding Hue – what’s the story behind the title?

It’s a part 2 from my first EP “Lost In Hue” where everything created is still geared towards my love for my wife and my relationship with God. First EP I wanted people to get lost in the moment of love, culture, spirituality and music. This EP I wanted people to hold on to that and live it. That’s why this one is a little more energetic.

How was the recording and writing process?

It’s was amazing, I got to be with each artist I collaborated with and work & write songs in their city with them. It’s awesome as a music producer to show people what you felt when you created the beat.

Is this a follow up to your previous EP, sort of like a new installment, or it’s a complete departure?

Yea it’s a follow up.

What role does your Latin roots plays in your music?

For right now in the EP’s you’ll hear some Caribbean vibes that’s connected to my Dominican roots which I’m very proud of . On my full length album, you’ll hear a lot of culture, especially my Latin roots.

What aspects of freedom did you get to explore with this album?

To be able to create anything I imagined has been the greatest freedom. I love not being put in a box.

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes! Been on the road the past couple months, would love for you guys to check out one of my shows! Go to gawvi.com and you can find my next show there.

What else is happening next in GAWVI’s world?

Next is just a bunch of shows, promoting EP 1&2 and in the middle of all that , finishing my debut album set to release beginning of next year!
