Patty Griffin announces acoustic tour

GRAMMY® Award-winning singer/songwriter Patty Griffin has announced an acoustic tour beginning with a rare club date, two-night stand at New York’s City Winery October 30 and 31 and ending November 21 and 22 with two nights at The Birchmere. All dates will have Joan Shelley supporting, except for two dates in Iowa for which Griffin will be opening for John Prine. The complete itinerary is below.

Griffin is touring in support of her Grammy-nominated masterwork Servant of Love

Produced by longtime collaborator Craig Ross, Servant of Love is Griffin’s 9th studio recording and first to be released via her new self-owned PGM imprint in conjunction with Thirty Tigers.

Perhaps Griffin’s most provocative and inspired collection to date, Servant of Love has quickly drawn worldwide critical approval from American Songwriter to The Irish Times to The Guardian‘s four-starred review to Rolling Stone saying “per usual, she’s got beautifully-crafted songs. What’s different is how they communicate, through incantatory vibe and groove as much as storytelling and poetry… The gorgeous (‘Rider of Days’) matter-of-factly transcends the conventions of Americana. Which seems to be the point here, if you need one – beyond how deeply felt, artful and unshakable this music is.”

For nearly two decades, Patty Griffin has been among contemporary music’s most acclaimed and imaginative artists, beloved and applauded around the world for her remarkable voice and striking songcraft. Now based in Austin, TX, the Old Town, ME-native made an instant mark with her 1996 debut, Living With Ghosts, and its 1998 follow-up, Flaming Red – both now considered seminal works of modern folk and Americana. Griffin has since received a number of prestigious accolades, notably the Americana Music Association’s “Artist of the Year” and “Album of the Year” (for 2007’s GRAMMY®-nominated Children Running Through) as well as the 2011 GRAMMY® Award for “Best Traditional Gospel Album,” honoring 2010’s Downtown Church. In addition, Griffin’s distinctive songs have been covered by a myriad of artists, including such icons as Emmylou Harris, Bette Midler, Solomon Burke, Miranda Lambert, Linda Ronstadt, Joan Baez, and the Dixie Chicks.

Joan Shelley quickly followed her acclaimed 2014 album Electric Ursa with Over and Even, a quieter, more contemplative set recorded in her home state of Kentucky. It was an album of the year at NPR Music and in the Los Angeles Times, and was given 4 stars in Rolling Stone, who called it “a masterfully turned set of folk reflections.” Shelley made the record with guitarist Nathan Salsburg, recording the bulk of the tracks over just two days. Shelley and Salsburg will perform as a duo on this tour.
