INTERVIEW: Crooked Eye Tommy

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hey Rafa, We are doing great. Thanks for taking time to visit with us. Things have been really crazy this last year. The record has been doing great and has been played all over the world. It’s a wonderful thing…

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Time Will Tell”?

Time will Tell is about the duality of humans. We are all both good and evil, We all lean more one way that the other. Often it is hard to tell which a person is and the song explores this a bit… Time being the one true clarifier.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

Not really I think t was just sort of an observation of humanity.

Any plans to release a video for the single?
We are exploring the possibilities video with a couple of different video producers but we have not made any decisions yet.

The single comes off your new album Butterflies and Snakes – what’s the story behind the title?

The title comes from the song “Time Will Tell” The second verse starts out “Women are made of Butterflies, Butterflies & Snakes. We were trying to decide what to name the record and Paddy came up with the idea to use these lyrics. It seemed perfect.

Known for your passion for Blues, Country and Southern Rock – how do you usually blend all those influences together and does one genre tends to shine out the most depending on the lyrics?

I can’t speak for Paddy but I don’t really think too much about genre. I just write what comes out based on the inspiration of the moment. The genres I love most are all in play I guess.

How has all the decades you have been on the scene have shape you as the artists you are today?

Every Experience we have had changes us. That is what life is right? An ever changing palate that is molded by our experiences good and bad. I would say that for us we have become very comfortable with who we are and we do not try to “fit in” to what music business folks spew out. We love playing the music that comes from our hearts and if it becomes commercially successful or not we will continue to do it. We will be always be satisfied regardless because we are doing what we love in a way that expresses who we are, what we like and how we feel.

Besides the human’s duality – what other topics did you get to explore with this material?

The importance of loving others and escaping the traps that emotionally draining people place in front of you. The frustrations we feel about the way our government taxes us..lol and The emptiness we can feel as a human are all themes found in Butterflies & Snakes…

Any plans to hit the road?

We are seriously exploring a trip to Europe next summer and are hoping to release our second album just before we leave. We will also be back in the Pacific Northwest next Spring. Next Year is going to be insane…

What else is happening next in Crooked Eye Tommy’s world?

We will be going into the studio after the first of the year to record our next compilation of magic… We are very excited about where the music is headed and we are confident the next effort will be even better than the work we did on Butterflies & Snakes. We have some great new tunes for everyone and can’t wait to unleash them on the world.
