Hi KO, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

What’s up VENTS! Man, I’m excited to talk with you about all the insane things I have been working on and what I have coming up in the near future.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Goddess”?

My song, “Goddess” –  this is one of my favorite records I have ever worked on. The song is a lovely mix between popular genres like Rap, EDM, & Pop. J and I (Phivestarr Productions) featured Rizzi Myers and Bingx on this song and they as always took the production to a whole new level. We produced the record at my studio and started the session with Rizzi beat boxing and humming melodies in the vocal booth. After tossing around some writing ideas, we began to write a song about spoiling your love interest in luxury because they are worth every Benjamin.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

I wouldn’t say any one particular event inspired the song but I believe we all enjoy occasionally being extravagant with someone special to us. Sometimes you have remind her she is a Goddess!

Any plans to release a video for the single?

We actually filmed in the studio the day we made the song and released “The Making of Goddess” on Youtube. Releasing right now is the Official music video. I worked with the amazing and award winning director Mason Dixon on this. I am very impressed with how this video came out. Be on the look out!

The single comes off your new EP High Gravity – what’s the story behind the title?

The story behind the name High Gravity comes from two areas. One I have always been intrigued with space, the earth and all of the elements. Two I like strong beers!

How was the recording and writing process?

The recording and writing process couldn’t have been better! We made the project in the DJ KO studio and at J’s spot so it was definitely a relaxed environment.  I conduct business as my own label and am under no obligations from anyone or anything. Bingx and Rizzi are so talented and might as well be family. We had so much fun bouncing ideas off one other. I had the honor of working with my good buddies Mike Fiorentino & Kyle Cook from The Nashville Recording Company on the song “Illusionz.” These guys are monsters in the studio and you might recognize Kyle from Rivers & Rust or as a member of the Multi-Platinum group Matchbox 20. They brought in Lee Anna James and funk commenced. Some reviews on the album mention the song “Live Without You” as a love song from one person to another but the song is actually about the love of music. On “Live Without You” I worked with Hannah Bethal and her writing is wonderful.

Do you take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else than when you are working on your own?

My approach in the studio definitely varies on what or who I am working with and looking to accomplish. I have been a student of music and production for over a decade now and I am improving my strengths and workflow constantly. When working with someone these are the things I look to understand about them. When I am in a studio session with a group I try to find my place for that particular session. Some days I am a guitar player and DJ only and some days I am playing guitar, bass, keys, banjo and DJ. It’s the coolest thing when myself and another artist’s workflow combine harmonically. On days when I am working alone, I tend to pick one of many directions and attack it.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

Inspiration surrounds me and I do my best to capture it in words and melodies. Or at least I email myself the ideas so I don’t forget them. The hardest thing for me is to try to think of lyrics about heartbreaks and sadness because I am very happy living everyday positive!

Any plans to hit the road?

Already in 2016 I have DJ’ed in 20 states and have no plans to stop! I have an amazing manager Phin Daly and book with the one and only WME, so a High Gravity Tour could be coming to a city near you soon!

What else is happening next in DJ KO’s world?

Currently I am excited working on solo projects for Bingx & Rizzi and now that I have had my first taste of releasing my own music I am in the studio non stop.

Thank you and it has been an honor talking with you VENTS! DJ KO WWW.DJKO.COM
