Hi Mark, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hey! I’m great thank you. Enjoying this lovely summer weather!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Grown Up”?

Yeah sure. It’s a track that I wrote a few months ago. The lyric talks about teenage nostalgia and the bitter-sweet transition into adulthood. It’s a mixture of really poppy melodies, which I love to write, electro synths and urban beats. Genre wise, I find myself listening mostly to Pop and R&B so I wanted to create a sound that was something in between the two. So it’s urban pop I guess.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

The inspiration for the song came from a phone call I had with one of my best friends who I hadn’t seen in a while. After I put the phone down, I had a brain wave and the lyrics just kind of flew out of me. It’s always amazing and a little bit scary when that happens. It’s like creative possession or something!

Any plans to release a video for the single?

I have some more music that i’m going to put out first before I shoot any videos. But yeah, a video would be great.

How was the recording and writing process?

My writing process usually involves me sitting at a keyboard at home with my diary or lyric book and putting the chords and melodies together. Once i’m happy with it, I’ll take the song into the studio and co-produce it with a producer. I produced “Grown Up” with Sam Cramer, who’s always lovely and chilled out to work with. We spent our time between takes laughing at Vines and videos on YouTube!

What role do Sam Smith and Sia play in your music?

I’m a fan of both artists. I love listening to songwriters who write honestly and hearing singers express emotion in their songs. So I guess they influence me in that sense.

Any plans to hit the road?

Yeah hopefully. It’s been a while since i’ve performed so I’m excited and hungry to hit the stage and get back out there.

What else is happening next in Beauty’s world?

I’ve been working hard on lots of new music so I will be putting that out and also writing songs for some other artists too!
