Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Hi, Vents! Thanks for speaking with us, we’ve been great.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Atomic Blonde”?
‘Atomic Blonde’ is released on 9th September and is an exploration of love and wanting what you can’t have. It’s about our in-built desire for self-destruction. It’s an intense affair that we neatly wrapped up in a three minute Pop song.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
Definitely, it’s completely autobiographical but the song is there to be interpreted – it would cheapen it to give everything away. We’ve always been fascinated by Pop music that is full of euphoria on a surface level but contains a deeper darker core. Those are our favourite Pop songs and ‘Atomic Blonde’ is one of them.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Keep an eye out towards the end of August…
How was the recording and writing process?
Dom writes from experience. There’s an element of truth in all our music. That’s why it connects on a personal level with people – They all encapsulate our personality as a band which is captured on record by Mark Morrow, our close friend who has basically been a part of the band since we started making music.
What role does the 80s play in your music?
It plays more than a significant role in Rebel Westerns. We were obsessed with that bittersweet angst in John Hughes coming of age movies. That feeling is universal through decades for anyone growing up – Musically, Prince and Whitney Houston are huge influences in getting our R’n’B/Guitar crossover. Sonically we share a gene pool with bands like The 1975 and The Neighbourhood.
How’s your new EP coming along?
We just recently finished it, it was such a cathartic moment capturing all the experiences that have led to these songs. It’s a snapshot of where are as a band and as people right now and we hope it has as strong a connection with our audience as it has for us.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
We’ll be releasing it towards the end of 2016 – right now our focus is on ‘Atomic Blonde’ so we haven’t set a concrete date yet but this is happening and we couldn’t be more proud.
Any plans to hit the road?
We’ll be touring across Scotland in the latter half of the year some bands in our area like the lovely boys in Kelvin. As well our first UK headline tour in the start of the year.
What else is happening next in Rebel Westerns’ world?
