INTERVIEW: Jeremy Thurber

Hi Jeremy, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hey VENTS! I’ve been amazing! Crazy busy but feeling great.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Deliverance”?

Yah totally! My new single “Deliverance,” that I created with Gabe Lopez, is all about me taking a risk and showing off everything I been working on. I have picked up on a lot, working with some of the best collaborators everyday in the studio as a writer and am really learning my voice inside and out.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

Haha – actually – yeah. I was super frustrated with the industry and producers not coming through and the politics of this business, so I started to feel like I wasn’t good enough. I was talking to Gabe Lopez and he was like, “come write a song, and just tell the song how you feel.” I wrote Deliverance in maybe 15 minutes, and the first verse was all freestyle and is on the final version still. The song was about needing people and needing to be your own savior sometimes. It was a huge milestone for me in my growth as a person and writer.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Listen, the video, is INCREDIBLE, and I hate doing Music videos! I had an incredible director, McCain Merren, who got my vision and really brought the story to life. That’ll be released next.

Why naming the album after this track in particular?

I named this Deliverance because I feel like I was going through a huge personal and musical growth period in my life and still am. This EP allowed me to just speak my truth, no bells and whistles to hide behind, just me. So here it is, me and my feelings. I hope people connect with the stories of triumph, love and self-respect that I tried to portray here.

How was the recording and writing process?

It was honestly effortless. Gabe and I had a blast recording every song. We probably did about 15 songs. We would write and Gabe would just let me tell my story and have a conversation with the music, it was quite therapeutic and cathartic at times.

Does your approach tend to change depending if you are collaborating with other artists rather than when you are writing your own music?

I think more so in past it did. Obviously sometimes you have artist who really knows what they want, so you follow their lead. But what I’ve found since I wrote Deliverance, is that I just write honest songs from the heart. It’s actually helped me in all aspects of music and really propelled my career. It’s been an exciting year and I’m so happy to share it in this EP.

How has your previous musical work has influence you as an artist?

I think my previous musical experiences have probably showed me more what I DON’T want and what NOT to do more than anything! My perspective and drive is clearer than ever.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

I found inspiration mostly from all the emotions you go through as a creator, both as a songwriter and as an artist in this industry, the constant rejection, being led on and just industry politics in general. I have this real life relationship with my career that is tangible and we go trough the same things I have in real physical relationships. Plus, there may be a love song or two on there from some real life inspiration ;).

Any plans to hit the road?

OMG Yes! You’ve asked the right question! Every meeting I go to with my manager I’m like, “so, when do we tour?” Being on stage is where I started as a dancer. I’ve opened up for acts at LA Sports Arena and headlined traveling China, and it’s just my fav!I’ll have some dates coming up very soon.

What else is happening next in Jeremy Thurber’s world?

Next for me is working on a fully produced album. I just started with some amazing producers that I can’t mention quite yet, but I think I’m onto a sound and something that’ll blow people’s minds. I’m really excited for the next phase. It’s a really exciting time. I’m always snap chatting from meetings and sessions and on Instagram so people can follow the adventures through those places! And send me a message!
