Hi ladies, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Hello! Thank you for the opportunity to be here we are in the 4th month of our UK tour so we are happily crazy;) 😉
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Bad Bitch”?
It was very therapeutic to write and its about standing up for your right to be yourself, never back down.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
like all our music we wrote it after an experience we lived through, last year on our first UK tour we were attacked during a performance, we had red liquid thrown straight into our faces and all over our gear we carried on playing and they kept coming back for more even knocking the Mic stand into my (Mille’s) face, the venue owner came out afterwards on social media and said “I Paul Tublord ordered the attack on the 2 Soap Girls to teach them a lesson as they are 2 sellout sluts and the epitome of all that is wrong with the music industry they are damaging to the feminist movement” it was definitely one of the worst moments of our lives, we had never felt lower and so music was our only outlet and Bad Bitch was born.
How was the film experience?
It was strange the camera man was very static so we had to create energy and movement out of nothing.
How was the recording and writing process?
The writing process was magical and happened naturally, recording was simple and fast.
What role does South Africa plays in your music?
The politics and harshness of life impact our thoughts and writing, so it is a great muse for rock and punk.
Does acting influence your music in any way?
Yes, we become characters when we perform our songs, we are possessed in a way onstage.
How’s your new album coming along?
Its going great thanks, we cant stop writing so its getting trickier to choose what songs to put on it.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Water’s Edge is the working title so far, at the moment we are releasing singles here in the UK our second one Rather Be Dead is being released in the next 8 days with a music video so the album will have to wait till next year.
How was the road been treating you so far?
Its been insane,we are always our happiest performing and having fun with our fans experiencing the world through music but it is also tough being stuck in such a confined space for so long also when we lose fish under car seats and the car smells horrendous it sucks and at some point someone in the car always feels murderous 😉 😉
Being on BBC introducing, having our first UK single Bad Bitch getting loads of airplay, fans that got our logo tattoed on them and performing at the Rock and Bike fest in Derby.
What else is happening next in The Soap Girls’ world?
We are constantly writing and evolving on and offstage we never set out with expectations so every day anything is possible, we are literally living on a prayer.
