INTERVIEW: Mangoseed

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Yeah we are good, enjoying the summer.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Jah Jah”?

Well its an old school reggae song , it’s about people searching for something , it’s i guess a reflection of where the world is , lots people are looking for a place to be to know where they are , to figure out where they are in the world.

It’s also stuff that we like like Dub and dub plates like from the 70’s and 80’s in jamaica.  It was a fun but a difficult process to get done as we wrote a really long dubplate version and then made it shorter untill we found the sweet spot, both for the live perfomances and fot the recorded versions.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

Not one thing in particular but i guess lots of little things, it feels like people don’t really know where they are any more, lots of ideals and standards have shifted or just don’t mean anything any more , we live in a really different world than five years ago and i guess we were thinking about where we stand in that where we are going.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yeah we are cooking up something , sending love to the sound system , and dub culture in the U.K. , and its coming soon.

How was the recording and writing process?

So we were trying to do all the stuff that we like like Dub and dub plates like from the 70’s and 80’s in jamaica.  It was a fun but a difficult process to get done as we wrote a really long dubplate version and then made it shorter untill we found the sweet spot, both for the live perfomances and for the recorded versions

What was it like to work with Sam Dyson and how did that relationship develop?

Working with Dys is cool he is like our fifth member who pushes us and annoys us and is always wanting us to make the best track that we can make and be very much ourselves. We have known each for a couple of years and been talking about making something and we decided to drive to bristol and spend a couple of days messing around and see what happens.

How much did he get to influence the single ?

He is the producer so a lot… ha ha ha , its all a colobrative , we try everything any of us suggest and just let the songs lead the way. But he is always trying to get the best out of us.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming?

Yeah there more stuff coming , i think we are to keep releasing singles for a bit , and them maybe in 2017 head back in and make an album.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Na we just loving the singles at the moment. We having too much fun to think about the next album yet.

Any plans to hit the road?

Yeah we are playing all through August and September doing shows all over.

What else is happening next in Mangoseed’s world?

WE are writing always writing , catching Pokemon , breaking strings , busting amps and generally being naughty boys. ha ha ha ha ha.
