INTERVIEW: Camilla Destiny

Hi Camilla, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hello, I’m good thank you.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Real Ones”?

Real Ones is a party song that gives you that summer feeling and makes you want to go out or hang out with your favourite people. There are some dope remixes by Westfunk, Sol Brothers, Matt Jam Lamont, Cutmore and ANÖ.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

I had just got back from Ibiza with a group of friends and we had such an amazing time. I was still reminiscing and filled with the holiday vibes. Driving home from a dance class I started humming a little melody ‘Let’s give it up for all the real ones’ I made a voice note then completed the melody and lyrics later that evening.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yass! We shot a video in Barcelona last week, it was so lit. We recreated the feeling of the song and the fun times we had in Ibiza that inspired the record. I went with a few friends, we visited the Gaudi Museum, went to see Rick Ross perform at Pacha and hung out at the beach. We even had a little pool party at the apartment with some new friends we met there. We did some cool underwater shots with the go pro. My friend George, a video director literally filmed everything on his Red. It was awesome. We had such a good time I think I need to make Real Ones part 2!

How was the recording and writing process?

I had the melody and the hook first, then I went back to the voice note later to finish the song.  I’m always making voice notes. The next day I went to the studio and John Robinson and I built the beat around my melody and lyrics. I had a pretty good idea of how I wanted it to sound, and then John added his ideas and we made this lil baby.

Do you take a different approach when you are writing for someone else than when you are writing for your own?

Yes very different. When writing for others there may be a brief, or they have ideas of what they would like the song to be about, or how they would like it to sound. I always try to write from their perspective and take into account the artist personality and style. When writing for myself whatever goes! It’s whatever pops into my head at the time or I can just go with the vibes and how I’m feeling. I really enjoy doing both.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?

I think I will start with a mixtape, a little intro to me as an artist.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Real Ones remixes come out on the 2nd September and the main single comes out on the 16th September. Followed by Rewind ft Atumpan produced by Killbeatz, High on you, Sunset and Builders. The EP is called CD1.

Would all the songs deal with enjoying life?

The songs are quite eclectic and cross genres. I would say they are pretty feel good on the EP. I also have songs that express different emotions, but I think it’s accurate to say life is being enjoyed on CD1.

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes for sure. I just opened up at the Indigo o2 on Saturday and have a few other dates coming in London and Scotland. Plus my single release party on 1st September.

What else is happening next in Camilla Destiny’s world?

I’m still writing for other people as usual and working on my own stuff. My main focus is to consistently put out music. I have four singles and two other songs I’m featured on dropping soon.
