INTERVIEW: Blade of Grass

V: Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Mike: Hot & sweaty. There’s a bit of a heat wave going on in Los Angeles and we’ve in in work mode putting in hours getting this EP ready and prepping for our live shows.

V: Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Skydream”?

Mike: Skydream was the result of our first introduction to our new drummer Amos, it came together during our spontaneous “get to know each other” jam session. Josh sings about desire (I think).

V: Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

Mike: Just trying to capture a moment in time (as always).  Things are pretty hard for a lot of us these days, I think the song is about yearning for something better, that feeling when you want something so bad you almost can’t breathe.

V: Any plans to release a video for the single?

Mike: Yes, we’re going to put something together, working on finding the right producer to be our ‘partner in crime’ on that.

V: The single comes off your new album Eyes Like Diamonds – what’s the story behind the title?

Mike: It’s a girl we imagined, not a specific girl, but more the essence of female energy.  Sorry if that’s abstract, some things are hard to put into words.

V: How was the recording and writing process?

Mike: It was cool, most of it was done at our studio space and when each track nears completion we start working with our producer to put the finishing touches in. Thanks to technology, recording and writing is more convenient than ever – what a great time to be alive!

V: What role does the West Coast play in your music?

Mike: Well, it’s where we’ve lived our whole lives, where our families are all from. It’s part of who we are. Los Angeles is pretty great if you can focus on the right things, it’s been good to us.

V: What aspects of dreams get to inspire the lyrics on this record?

Mike: Josh is an avid dreamer, he’s always talking about astral projection.  A lot of the music and lyrics come in a state of “daydream” if you will (not sure if that counts).

V: Any plans to hit the road?

Mike: We’re playing locally and then in Southern California for the next few months, would entertain offers to take our show on the road of course.

V: What else is happening next in Blade of Grass’ world?

M: Lots of fruit smoothies and most certainly attending some great upcoming festivals in the Southern California area – like Desert Daze and FYF, to name a couple.
