Carl Broemel, guitarist in My Morning Jacket, has released new track “Rockingchair Dancer” via Entertainment Weekly. Coming off of Broemel’s forthcoming solo LP 4th of July, the song is offered as an instant grat with album pre-order along with previous tracks “Sleepy Lagoon”, “In the Dark”, and “Snowflake”. In addition to “Rockingchair Dancer”, Broemel has also shared a teaser made up of home videos. Co-produced by Teddy Morgan, the full album is slated for release August 19 via Stocks in Asia/Thirty Tigers.
Broemel tells Entertainment Weekly of the track, “I was standing over my son’s crib playing guitar trying to help him fall asleep when I came up with this song. Being around such a new human being inspired me to think back on my own childhood dreams and how they have come true in many ways, but in such a different fashion than I had imagined.” The song features vocals from Laura Veirs. Additional collaborations on the record include fellow My Morning Jacket members Bo Koster and Tom Blankenship, with Koster co-writing a few tracks. Neko Case, Russ Pollard, Shelly Colvin, Richard Medek, and Jordan Caress also appear on the album. Recorded in Nashville between album and tour cycles, 4th of July examines the passage of time marveling at how different our lives look now from the engrained images of ourselves that we’ve held onto from the past.
Broemel is currently on tour as a member of Ray LaMontagne’s band with a full solo tour coming in October. Carl Broemel solo tickets are on sale now. See a full list of upcoming tour dates below.
