Montreal-bred, LA-based husband-wife duo, Parlor Social, is pleased to announce their new debut single, “It’s Complicated (Let Go),” available now on iTunes. Comprised of critically acclaimed 1930’s jazz-inspired singer Dessy Di Lauro and keyboardist/producer, Ric’key Pageot, Parlor Social combines the jubilant jive sound of the 1930s Harlem Renaissance with today’s urban and hip hop beats into a uniquely new creation they’ve dubbed “neo-ragtime.” “It’s Complicated (Let Go)” is the first single from their forthcoming album, due out this fall. Before joining forces as a duo, Pageot and Di Lauro each had their own established music careers. Pageot boasted noteworthy songwriting credits (Earth, Wind, & Fire and Jill Scott) and high-profile touring keyboardist positions for Madonna’s “Sticky & Sweet,” “MDNA” and “Rebel Heart” tours, as well as Diana Ross’s “More Today Than Yesterday” tour. Di Lauro landed several vocalist gigs, including as a background vocalist for Patti LaBelle, Deborah Cox, and The Neville Brothers.
The two artists first came together professionally when Pageot produced and co-wrote Di Lauro’s debut solo EP, A Study of a Woman’s Soul, and eventually their relationship would blossom into marriage. They went on to help create and perform Cirque du Soleil’s Delirium arena tour, with Pageot as the Musical Director and Di Lauro as the leading vocalist.
Since 2010, the duo have flourished musically on several joint artistic project. They first collaborated on Di Lauro’s single, “Why U Raggin’, which won two Hollywood Music in Media Awards. Further collaborative efforts yielded an ESPN feature throughout the 2013 NCAA basketball Final Four Championship and a sold-out 2014 Las Vegas residency at the Cosmopolitan’s Rose Rabbit Lie Ballroom. Music Connection Magazine has voted them one of ”Hot 100 Live Unsigned Artists and Bands” in the country. Their 2015 single and music video “Let Me Hear You Say Hep Hep” garnered wide media attention, including a feature on Essence, AfroPunk, YRB Magazine and Perez Hilton.
Today, Parlor Social is set to introduce their new “retro-futuristic” sound, which explores the themes of tension between past and future as they continue to propel a vintage sound into the future. Stay tuned for their upcoming EP, set to release this fall, which includes their latest single, “It’s Complicated (Let Go),” available now on iTunes.
