With elements of folk-instrumentation and pop-inspiration, San Francisco’s Branches are best friends turned band mates who will be releasing their sophomore effort, White Flag, on September 16th.
Courtesy of American Songwriter, you can now listen + share the album’s latest track “Look Out Below”.
“When ‘Look Out Below’ came to us two years ago, it felt like we had discovered a bridge between some of the sounds that helped us get our start and some of the newer elements that we were just beginning to experiment with for this new record,” explained guitarist Tyler Goerzen. “It awakened something in us, and inspired a lot of the energy and excitement that made its way on to White Flag. ‘Look Out Below’ has been a staple of our live shows this past season, and holds a special place in the track-listing of this new record.”
This new energy and excitement promises to bring the band’s past successes to new levels as the release of their 2012 debut record Thou Art The Dream allowed Branches to tour with Mutemath, DEVO, Milo Greene, Joseph and the Ying-Yang Twins (yes, seriously) and songs from the album were featured on the TV shows Cougar town, One Tree Hill and Parenthood as well as film trailers for Cake, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Love is Strange.
Looking forward, White Flag utilizes every instrument in Branches’ arsenal – electric guitar and banjo, harmonium and synthesizer, tambourine and roto tom – exploring the two-sided coin of surrender; considering the right and wrong times to throw in the towel. Pre-order the album HERE.
