Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Thanks for having us, we’ve been good thanks.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Unclear”?
“Unclear” is the latest single off our new EP “More To Life”, its probably one of our favourite songs to play live, we usually open our set with it.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
The song is quite literal, its about future plans and aspirations, not exactly an event but we all have those days where we think “what am I doing, where am I going?”. Whether it be with the band or in our jobs etc. The lyrics are sort of the answer to those questions, quite literally it is an “unclear path” but we’d rather be on it than have a future that’s 100 percent set in stone.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
There is a video, we’re super pleased with it, it should be out come September, really excited to put it out!
The single comes off your new EP “More To Life” – what’s the story behind the title?
The overall subject matter and meaning behind these songs are there are far better things you could be doing with your time than coming home from the job you hate, watching TV/playing on your Xbox and going to sleep, get out and do something worthwhile.
How was the recording and writing process?
Writing wise everything came together quite nicely, James and I would write a few guitar ideas and we’d work on them at practice and just perfect them over time. Recording was awesome, its such a fun process watching it all come together, not only that but it was good to have Chris Edkins, our producer watching as a third party, he offered some great suggestions and touches that we absolutely love, even minor things like weird fade out distortion noises which were really fun to play around with.
With a very eclectic group of influences all the way from Norma Jean to Yellowcard – do you try to blend them together or while they influence you as an artist are you all seeking for a new direction?
Its great to listen to a wide spectrum of music, we love pretty much anything but we also have our favourite “go-to” genres, Lewis loves his pop punk, James loves rock/metal (especially Coheed and Cambria) and I love bands like Norma Jean, Capsize, Defeater etc. Green Day though have probably been my favourite band since I was 11, still are, they don’t sound a thing like us but every now and than I can hear minor parts of all these influences in stuff we play and its a cool feeling.
Any plans to hit the road?
Yeah definitely! We are doing an EP release house show where we filmed our first music video “No Idols” which we’re beyond pumped for, then we’re doing a week long EP release tour all in October the week after the EP is released.
What else is happening next in Eight Days’ world?
We’re gonna play a load more shows and start jamming out some new ideas over the next few weeks.
