INTERVIEW: Civil Youth

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

– We are more excited than EVER!!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Emergency (Look Out Kid)”?

– Our latest video we released was a cover of two of our favorite songs, Emergency by Paramore, and Saturday Superhouse by Biffy Clyro. We think this might be our favorite cover we’ve released yet.

What led you to blend these two tracks in particular?

– We were specific in picking these two songs because with our new album coming out in May 2017, we wanted to foreshadow some of our influences to the new record.

How was the film experience?

– It’s always a fun time filming with close friends!

What was it like to work with David Liwoski and how did that relationship develop?

– Dave is a close friend of ours so we’ve already had an established relationship, and it’s always fun shooting with him because there is no pressure. This video was actually directed by Tyler Kitchenman however, who is a separate entity of Dave’s company! Tyler has been a lifelong friend.

What did he brought to the table?

– His blue hair…

Dave is very professional with how he holds himself so even though we have fun, we can bring it right back to business.

The single comes off your new album Who Rescued Who – what’s the story behind the title?

– “Follow Me” is the most well perceived song out of all the singles we put out with the record. It’s essentially talking about Mike’s inability to lead his own life because of the pursuit to make others happy. You’ll have to take a listen and tell US what YOU think it’s about…

How was the recording and writing process?

– We record with Jeff McKinnon of Controlled Sound Studios, who again is a close friend so the process is always full of laughing and Roburrios which is dope burrito place in  Lancaster, PA.

Does Philly plays a role in your music?

– Philly of course plays a HUGE role in our career since that’s where we’re from however since we’ve toured from the start of Civil Youth, there’s other cities that mean just as much to us like St. Louis, Dallas, Orlando and Salt Lake City.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

– We find inspiration in ALL aspects of art and life. There’s just too much to limit yourself with.

Any plans to hit the road?

– We will be out in August for the Evolution Tour and then again in October for an unannounced tour!

What else is happening next in Civil Youth’s world?

– Besides the future tours, we have a HUGE new record coming out in May of 2017 that we are working VERY hard on and we think people will truly grab this record for all it’s worth.
