Sync licensing company SYNCSMITH has launched this week, asserting the role of experimental electronic music in the TV, Film, and Gaming Industries
Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Really good thanks, it’s been a hectic few months but challenging and rewarding all the same!
So what led you to start this company?
A complex combination of frustrations and opportunities really, the downturn in digital and physical sales coupled with the increasing importance of experimental electronic music in film has led us to evolve the sync concept but offer more avant-garde material.
Many licensing companies focus on pretty much every genre out there – what brought you to focus specifically on experimental and avant-garde? Any plans in the future to open your doors to other styles?
No plans at all to focus on any other genres, I’m a firm believer in niched excellence i.e just concentrating on doing one thing but excelling beyond all expectations, so apologies, but our focus will remain on the plethora of phenomenal material offered by electronic purveyors for the foreseeable!
Will you be focusing the music on any particular type of film or video games, or you are aiming to have syncs in a wide range of visual genres?
Nice question, well put! We’ve given this plenty of consideration, our core ethos is to amplify enigmatic on-screen content (of all genres) so we will obviously align ourselves with more visually challenging, immersive, art-driven content, but thats not to rule any opportunities out, it would be far too easy and predictable for us to opt solely for the Sundance/Cannes market but were not that naive and thats not the way we operate.
What makes you guys stand out from the competition?
We’re bloody nice people!
How can unsigned artists reach you out and submit?
I’m afraid were not taking on anymore artists or labels for now, we want to offer our roster unparalleled levels of support and it would be unfair to water that down.
What else is happening in Syncsmith’s world?
Currently listening to the new Guy Andrews Album on Houndstooth, unbelievably good!!
