Wagwan, VENTS. We have been really busy but generally pretty class. You?
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Whatever Dress Suits You Better”?
Being the oldest track on the EP, it has gone through many reincarnations since its birth two and a half years ago. We found after playing it live a ridiculous amount of times that it became somewhat of a ‘fan favourite’, so it had to be on the EP.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
A funky alien tourist from the outer cosmos told us to write this tune. He’s now living amongst us and is married to Kieran’s Dad.
How was the film experience?
VERY sweaty. We were fortunate enough to use some really cool facilities with some mad green screen-esque technology. It took a couple of days and three bottles of dark rum but it was good times.
The single comes off your new album Something Like Heaven – what’s the story behind the title?
Well it’s the name of the lead single from the EP, which is about waiting up and waiting around and waiting for something like heaven to hit you now… We thought it summed up the EP quite well!
How was the recording and writing process?
We had been writing and revamping the songs on the EP for a good while before finally going into the studio, so we had a pretty solid idea of what we wanted the tunes to sound like. We had loads of fun with these songs while recording them and got the chance to be really experimental. We think they turned out a lot better than even we had expected!
Were all the songs based on a TV show?
Yes, but you’ll never guess which one.
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
Nothing particularly more exciting or romantic than what everyone else experiences in day to day life, really. Up’s and down’s and reach-around’s.
Any plans to hit the road?
We’re over in Europe for a bit and are then back in UK for festie season. It feels like a lifetime since we’ve been on the road so we cannot wait. We’ll be near you soon, fam!
What else is happening next in Model Aeroplanes’ world?
More music and more gigs! We’ve no intention of stopping anytime soon so expect a lot more for goodness for your earballs really soon.
