Cymbal Launches New 2.0 Version and Android App

Cymbal, the internet’s most influential music community, has unveiled a new 2.0 version alongside a brand new Android app which was announced at Google I/O 2016 as part of the Play Store’s “Early Access” program.

A taste of what’s new:

  • Hashtags are communities. Find like-minded listeners by following a hashtag like #indie or #chancetherapper. These crowdsourced playlists are fanclubs for anything, and are constantly re-sorted for popularity. Plus, the app pushes the top song from any hashtag you follow to your feed like a new friend who always has the inside hook on the music you love.
  • Trending songs. Check the Explore tab to see what songs are being shared most now globally. Watch top songs fly up this crowdsourced chart as listeners catch on, and stay on the cutting edge of new music.
  • Listen to everything. Any group of songs, anywhere on the app, is playable as a playlist, so the empty state of our new player encourages you to listen to whatever you’re looking at in sequence.
  • A makeover. 2.0 prioritizes exposing listening, conversations, and interactions. Cymbal’s new unified player and tab bar is one-of-a-kind.

Cymbal launched just a year ago and has rapidly expanded their usership globally, welcomed pop stars, indie bands, legendary labels, buzzy blogs and probably most of your friends.

The app was built on a simple desire: To connect over songs.  Cymbal has created powerful, listenable communities – the first time the mix of music you listen to will come from people like you, either individuals or communities, not algorithms. Linked with Spotify and Soundcloud, Cymbal members are easily able to share their favorite tunes within the app’s community that is made up of artists from Pusha T to Frankie Cosmos to Hailee Steinfeld, tastemakers from Pitchfork’s Ryan Dombal to blogs like Tiny Mix Tapes and from Def Jam to Epitaph Records. From indie to superstar, from metal to pop – with Cymbal each member is enabled to be their own influencer.
