Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Dark Nights”?
-Yeah…when writing that one I teleported to Gotham City in my mind. It definitely paints a sinister, post-apocalyptic, or very dark landscape for me. We wanted a hero song.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
-I believe we were writing this one for a movie trailer, we were inspired by cinema.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
-Chris Marrs Piliero is directing the video and I’m hoping my friends Jeff Hilliard (comedian, actor) & Efren Ramirez (he played Pedro in Napoleon Dynamite) will makes cameos.
The single comes off your new album ROCKISDEAD – what’s the story behind the title?
-Our sense of humor.
How was the recording and writing process?
-Fun and challenging. I got to explore different sides of my voice. We made it as raw as we could and did most of the percussion ourselves. We did all the backgrounds ourselves and kept it super personal.
Did LA play a role in this record?
-Majorly. My experiences in Hollywood for the past several years really shaped my writing and emotional delivery. If it doesn’t sound like LA on a hot, rockin’ summer night…then I would be bummed.
Though the title says one thing, the album is seeking the opposite – what led you to bring back real, pure rock again?
-We didn’t have that in mind as our mission statement, we just wanted to write electric, high energy music. The band members are crucial in delivering this. We really vibe off each other when we perform. We want to wake motherfuckers up, not put them to sleep.
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
Any plans to hit the road?
-We hit the road in two weeks with THE STRUTS, and again with HALESTORM & LITA FORD in the fall.
What else is happening next in DOROTHY’s world?
-I’m currently working on album 2 and rehearsing with the guys. It’s hot as dog balls in LA right now & I’m really jonesing to travel. We’ve been getting great interviews so thank you for this one. We hope you love ROCKISDEAD!
