INTERVIEW: Death Division

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Really Good, Rafael – we’ve been touring for the last two months and are really loving connecting with our fans!

Can you talk to us about your latest single “The Truth”?

The Truth has always been a special song to us. During the writing and recording of this series I had started my journey into sobriety after many, many years struggling and battling Alcoholism. The song on my end reflects a lot of that inner turmoil and struggle with addiction.  The song overall just has such an anthemic vibe. We knew if we could, we would release it as a single!

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

The Truth was inspired by clarity – for the first time in a long time, seeing a way forward and moving in a positive direction.

How was the video filming experience?  What was the process like?

The video I had written and directed from another point of view:Which was Sean’s perception of organized religion as a means of control. I liked the idea and figured burning churches would be a good start, (just kidding!). The real magic came from a dear friend I met a few years back in Hollywood from Milan, Italy – Francesco “Zano” Zanotti. He did all the animation.

The process was cool, Zano and I started with a few emails about my treatment; to a story board, then full on digital graphics. The live portion I just google searched how to make a green screen, haha.   Called my buddy Bill Weiss who is an editor and had cameras! We literally called the guys over and shot the live stuff in an hour.

How was the recording and writing process for Angels Of The Black Dawn Part One?   Any stories from the studio?

Oh man… We just went for it, set up camp in my house and started writing and demoing songs. At the time Sammy D’Ambruoso had been staying with me until his boss and our friend Al Jourgenson moved to LA so we had him working around the clock with us.

Alex recorded the drums on 12 songs in ONE DAY in Studio 2 at EastWest Studios. I mean that place has ALL the history you can take. Everyone from Metallica, to System of a Down, Megadeth, and Nicklebackhave recorded there. The room was built for TV show songs. They recorded The Beverly Hillbillies theme song there, LOL! MASH, The Adams Family – ALL those classic TV show themes which is pretty cool. We tracked guitars in Studio 3 where (The Beach Boys) Pet Sounds was recorded. I mean how awesome is THAT?  The place is ALL class and vibe. We lucked out on that one! It was a good time.

Are you already working on a sequel/follow up?

We recorded a collection of 12 songs all at once, but have just mixed the first Ep’s worth.

I felt for us, as an up and coming band – it would be better to release a Part One and Part Two to keep us out on the road working. It’s a fast food media world these days and as soon as you release something its chewed up and spit out in a blink of an eye. Releasing fewer songs allows the fans to focus on a few tunes at a time and have something cool and new to look forward to in a shorter time frame. So part 2 is essentially done and ready, and we can’t wait to release it either later this year or early in 2017.

Would both EPs follow the same theme or they will they be standalone records?

They follow the same theme and will eventually be released as a collective under one title – I hope with bonus material.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics on this EP?

I am always inspired by whatever is going on in my life or the things surrounding me. This time it was all inspired by revolt, change and battling demons. Sobriety has been a very humbling experience. The journey of a million miles begins with the first step and with every step comes more clarity. Sobriety opened my eyes to a lot of beautiful things but also a ton of very dark places, things, actions and consequences I hid from for many, MANY years…Decades, in fact. I am very blessed to be here and have this opportunity to share my story. That’s where my drive and inspiration come from today.

What are your touring plans for the rest of the year?

We plan on staying out on the road and touring as much as we can. We want to get out and earn our way. We love to get out and play. I am writing this currently on tour in Jacksonville, Florida!

What else is happening next in Death Division’s world?

We will be out playing shows; Releasing videos; Playing more shows and releasing more music to grow and take this band World-wide!
