Bird will play music from the new album as well as material from his storied career. Presale tickets are available now, get them here.

Bird is currently on the road, with appearances at Austin City Limits, Bumbershoot and Hopscotch in addition to his own headline dates this fall. A portion of ticket sales for each headline show are donated to support gun control, read more here.

Bird today debuts the first installment of “Live from the Great Room,” a new, ongoing series of Facebook Live performances. Streamed live from Bird’s home, the series will broadcast weekly and feature guest appearances from some of Bird’s friends and collaborators. Episode One features guitarist Blake Mills; watch the archived broadcast on Bird’s Facebook here.

“I’m not exactly a social media maven, but I’ve stumbled on an online format that I can get with,” says Bird of the new series. “Going out via Facebook Live, I bring in musicians that I think will push me into interesting territory. I’ve always been about showing the process and the never ending quest to get to the heart of a song, and there’s something casual about this whole thing that’s appealing.”

Chicago-based film score composer, multi-instrumentalist and lyricist, Andrew Bird, picked up his first violin at the age of four and spent his formative years soaking up classical repertoire completely by ear. As a teen Bird became interested in a variety of styles including early jazz, country blues and gypsy music, synthesizing them into his unique brand of pop. Since beginning his recording career in 1997, he has released eleven albums, his first solo record Weather Systems coming in 2003. Bird has gone on to record with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and perform at New York’s Carnegie Hall. Bird has composed the film score for the movie Norman (hailed as “a probing, thoughtful score” by The New York Times), contributed to the soundtrack of The Muppets and collaborated with inventor Ian Schneller on Sonic Arboretum, an installation at New York’s Guggenheim Museum and Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art. He recently released Echolocation: Canyon, the first in a series of sonic experiments recorded in situ in nature.
