Grammy award-winning soul singer/songwriter Kendra Foster has revealed her dynamic self-titled album today via Complex. PRESS HEREto listen to the 11-track collection, which will be released on Friday, June 24 via EarKandy Music. Kendra collaborated with producer Kelvin Wooten (Mary J. Blige, Macy Gray, TLC) on most of the album, including single “Promise to Stay Here,” and fellow Vanguard member Jermaine Holmes produced “Just A Memory.” The album follows her most recent work with D’Angelo on the acclaimed Black Messiah, for which she won two Grammys for Best R&B Album and Best R&B Song (“Really Love”).
Soaked in classic R&B grooves, funky undercurrents and Kendra’s soaring velvety vocals, the album is multidimensional and soulful in spirit from her experiences. Whether it be a love song or a socially conscious one, she gracefully brings together different elements from her musical background and her life, resulting in an irresistibly layered experience. Strong messages of heartbreak and injustice are coated with sweet melodies of hope and triumph. PRESS HERE to listen to single “Promise to Stay Here,” which has already racked up over 800K streams on Spotify.
Kendra will celebrate the release of the album with two performances in Brooklyn: June 23 at BRIC B-Sides, and June 29 at Summerstage’s Soul In the Horn. PRESS HERE for more information. Known as a longtime member of George Clinton’s Parliament Funkadelic, Kendra has toured worldwide and played many shows with contemporaries including Andra Day, PJ Morton and more.
Kendra has written for the likes of Mark Ronson,Sunshine Anderson &, PFunk Allstars, but it washer contributions to D’Angelo’s highly anticipatedBlack Messiahalbum that had heads turning last year, not only for her illustrious singing on the record as part of The Vanguard but for her brilliant co-writing on eight of the album’s tracks.
