INTERVIEW: Gonzalla

Hi, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hey ! Thanks for having me. I’m doing well, there’s a lot of Gonzalla things going on which is fantastic.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “We Still Run?”

Yeah of course, ask away.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Yeah actually a close friend of mine was going to very tough time in life and was in and out of the hospital quite frequently. I just wanted to help them see the positive side of things and to let them know they aren’t alone through the whole process. I just wanted to be a good friend and help out really, I knew I should do something and I thought writing a song for them was the best thing I can do at the time.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Not at the moment, but I imagine the song could have quite a nice video for it. There’s a lot of imagery in this track so I do have a goal of making a video for it at some point.

How was the recording and writing process?

It was quite easy to write the song, it came together in a very organic way. It took a couple of days to piece the whole thing together mainly because the story was being written during the same timeline of my friends heaviest hospital moments.

The recording process was very beautiful because I had opportunity to work with Turin Breaks in London who really helped with bouncing ideas off of. I actually dreamed of us listening back to the finish song before we had actually finished it so the morning after that we pieced together the parts I heard in my dream and thats what the finished song is now.

What’s it like to have Paul McCartney as a fan?

Paul is still a 16-year-old lad, he’s got so much energy and enthusiasm in him and when he likes something he’ll definitely let you know. It’s quite reassuring knowing that he’s a fan of my music in a way that I know what I’m coming up with must have some impact on people if it can move him. I don’t think of him as a god or anything but he’s seriously talented and it’s nice to have approval from him even though it wouldn’t stop me if he hated it. I do it for myself at the core of it, It fulfills my own needs as a person but it’s a huge plus if people understand and appreciate what I’m doing in a sense.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yeah I’ve got loads of unrecorded music that I’m trying to sort at the moment. There are some remixes coming out soon though that I’m very excited about. They’re done by my friend in the UK called “Cobble”. He’s super talented and has taken the songs to a new space of mind.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

The remixes should be out over the next two months, I’m going into the studio soon for a new single and possible EP which we could see being released not too long from now.

Any plans to hit the road?

I’m mainly playing in LA at the moment but the idea is to tour LA, New York, and the UK once we get the right support. I’ve recently gotten members of One Republic involved in the live show so I’m really excited to showcase what we’ve been working on.

What else is happening next in Gonzalla’s world?

Meetings with Record labels and getting ready to debut the new live band mainly.
