Garrison Starr has recently released her new single “Put Your Weapon Down” off her upcoming album. The single will be released this Friday 6/17, and all proceeds of the single’s sales will be donated to the National Center for Victims of Crime to deploy funds to the victims of the Orlando tragedy. Listen here.
Garrison says: “‘Put Your Weapon Down’ was originally written about my relationship and the frustration of being stuck in a stalemate out of fear and lack of understanding. Nobody wanted to be the first to put down the proverbial gun. The attack on the gay community in Orlando was an act of hateful bigotry and also an attack on freedom of self and authenticity. I believe it all stems from fear. That being said, as a gay person, it’s wonderful to see all of us rising up in our beautiful skins, just as we are, living openly and bravely. I’m encouraged by the strength and love I’ve seen in the wake of this tragedy, and I hope this song will help to empower and encourage others in moving forward from here.”
