Can you talk to us more about your latest single “St. Joan”?
The song touches on a few different themes I think. it’s essentially a song about acceptance, letting go of love and moving on, also having the humility to return.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
I guess I was going through a breakup at the time I wrote it.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Yes there is a video for the single. It’s a beautiful animation by Lucinda Schreiber. Hopefully it will get a release soon in the UK.
The single comes off your new album Rucker’s Hill – why naming the album after this track in particular?
I think the song represents a lot of the themes on the album – home, belonging, lost love, memory, starting over.
How was the recording and writing process?
It was difficult at first but once we found the essence of the album and the sound we wanted to capture it was great – a lot of challenges and learning and joy and digging deep. All good stuff.
What was it like to work with Phil Ek and how did that relationship develop?
We always loved the sound of the records he worked on so we got in touch about working on Ruckers Hill. He has some kinda secret to making stuff sound amazing, vocals especially.
How much did he get to influence the album?
Everyone brings something and Phil has a lot to bring so I think it would have been a different album without him. It’s hard to say how different and it’s also difficult to pinpoint what his exact influence was.. Phil makes things sound beautiful, especially vocals, as I said. He really brought out the best in the recordings.
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
Everywhere. From the day to day, to dreams, to books and poems and songs and films and people and…who knows.
Any plans to hit the road?
We’ll be in Europe in August for some summer festivals. And then we’ll probably be back in those parts later in the year again.
What else is happening next in Husky’s world?
We’re already working on new songs. They’re flowing at the moment so we may have a new release pretty soon!
