Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Busy busy Well thx. (Marcus)
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Cerveza”?
Cerveza was a song that came along later in the process of this album,I think it was 1 of the last 2 songs we recorded. We knew right after we tracked recorded and listen to it on the monitors that this is going to be our summer jam. (Maddy )
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
Yeah but I can’t give you any details, Lets just say it involves beer, surfing, warm summer nights on the Oregon coast and two lovely ladies. (Maddy)
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Oh yes, just trying to get the weather to cooperate and getting the right film crew to shoot it. Might even head over to Hawaii to shoot some scenes. (Maddy)
The single comes off your new album No Ceilings – what’s the story behind the title? How was the recording and writing process?
We Mostly jam out some tunes at band practice and Maddy or I will fall in love with A particular jam and write to it. Sometimes Maddy will come to practice with a song he made at a party or just sitting at home picking the ukulele or the guitar and play it for us and we will all then add our perspective Instruments to the song. And Maddy and I come up with harmonies that can enhance the song if needed. And Shit Recording is recording. Recording is what we live for. We work with one of the best recording engineers in Portland so it makes it easy and fun. (Marcus)
How would this album showcase a more matured side of the band?
On the first album we were not involved as much, we would come in sing then leave, and we were kind of OK with that. This time around we are more involved from the beginning to the end and when you get to see that it makes you grow up a little bit , it gives you more pride in your art. And when you have more involvement in the process there’s no excuses. You have to take ownership. So this album has us stepping out on the ledge trying different things and making it fit. (Marcus)
Known for blending different genres – does one style tends to shine out the most depending on the lyrics’ theme or how do you work that out?
We feel that a well-balanced Indie style is the most dominant sound on this album. We blend a little bit of reggae and hip-hop in like pop giants like sublime and the chili peppers. The style we have is the perfect soundtrack to snowboard, skateboard and mountain bike too. We Feel like we a have a style that you should be able to dance to at a beach party after a long day of surfing as well as sit back and reflect on love lost. Main theme of our style should be fun and love. (Maddy)
What aspects of hope and love get to inspire the lyrics on this album?
We try and look at hope and love from a youthful perspective. Knowing that we don’t have all the answers but we’re giving it our best shot at life ,exploration, caring, interaction with others and inspiring others to live their dreams. So we hope our lyrics deliver since of ambition to others. That’s hope and love for oneself and others around you. (Maddy)
Any plans to hit the road?
Yes indeed we will most likely be hitting the road mid August doing Washington Oregon and Idaho College bars and venues. It’s looking like we’ll have a few hemp based festivals as well. We’re willing to go anywhere in the world and we are looking forward to travel and living on the road. (Marcus)
