Presented as an elegy to David Bowie, Chemical Dreams released their debut track “Sleep In Peace” on Groundsounds. The video’s dream-like style perfectly matches the somber lyrics, as they are accompanied by airy, ambient guitar riffs. As the group describes it, “The sadness we felt upon his sudden passing was more profound than any of us expected. His music was always an exploration of possibilities. We were sonic companions through his songs.” Chemical Dreams is as unpredictable as your dreams will be tonight. There is no set theme or style. One minute it could be a sultry love song and the next you might be hearing a rhythm Grace Jones would be happy to hula-hoop to all night long. Watch the video for “Sleep In Peace” here.
Alister Johnson, world renowned Toronto-based DJ, took the folk sounds of The Wilderness of Manitoba and transformed it into an electronic dance track, now on Live In Limbo. Upon first listen, Johnson was drawn to the vocal melody and knew that he could expand on the song by re-contextualizing the sound. “I wanted to take it away from the acoustic / live sound and bring it into the analog synth / drum machine world.” Johnson is known for his production work with Grand Analog and Zaki Ibrahim, as well as creating jazz cuts with Sacha Williamson and touring Europe with Azari & III. The Wilderness of Manitoba characterizes itself as an evolving entity. From the band’s inception, it has redefined itself with every album. In its seven year existence, the band has played a multitude of festivals and toured the UK, Netherlands, Germany, USA and Canada. The band recently completed their fifth studio album.
