Hi Skyler, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Very well, thank you for asking. Extremely busy recording more original songs and a few covers, and I just recently performed/opened at an event here in LA called Cinco 4 alongside the Janoskians and Sammy Wilk.

Can you tell us more about your single “Fire”?

Originally FIRE was a solo urban/dance mix about enjoying life and keeping it “lit up”. It was written by Mike Gonsolin and Nick Nittoli at Trend Def Studios. Mike had worked with Snoop Dogg on a previous project and after hearing the vibe of the song after production he felt that a collaboration with Snoop Dogg would be perfect for this song. He sent my recording to him and he really liked it. Snoop Dogg wanted to write his own verse to add his own unique touch to the song so we deleted the original second verse and Snoop Dogg wrote his own verse/lyrics to be mixed into the song, which definitely gives it an edgier sound.

Any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

While “Fire” was written exclusively for me, it was not written by me.  “Fire” was actually written and produced by Trend Def Studios. I have co-written four new originals which have been recorded and produced and will be out shortly.  Also, a good friend of mine, Jenny, who is also a recording artist in LA loved one of the songs I wrote and is going to record it herself, so I am extremely happy that I can say an artist is going to record one of my songs!

How was the film experience?

Beyond Amazing! I got to work on set with Snoop Dogg and my best friends for the entire day. We actually shot the video in a warehouse in LA where Chris Brown shot one of his music videos. All the people you see in the video are actually close friends of mine, we didn’t hire anybody, so to work and have fun with all my friends and Snoop Dog was incredible. It was an extremely hot day and there was not air conditioning in the warehouse so we had lots of water and hair and make-up breaks, but shooting this video is definitely a day I will never forget.

What was it like to work with Snoop Dogg and how did that relationship develop?

Absolutely awesome!! He was so friendly and professional and I am so lucky to have had the chance to perform with and learn from such a living legend. We had a great working relationship and while no plans right now, I would not hesitate to work with him again if given the opportunity in the future.

How much did he get to influence the song?

Quite a lot, when you get the chance to work with someone who has been respected in the business for decades, you take all you can get from their expertise and experiences. He actually wanted to inject his own unique style into the song  so he wrote his own lyrics and arrangement, so while it was incredible to have the chance to even work with Snoop Dogg, to have him actually want to take the time and create his own stamp on the song was beyond what I could have imagined.

How was the recording and writing process?

As I mentioned earlier I didn’t write “Fire” but the recording process was hard work but a lot of fun. My producer, Mike Gonsolin, is amazing and makes you feel so comfy and relaxed it just flowed really well. Mike is a perfectionist, which was great for the song, so we worked hard through the night until 3am to get the best result and I am extremely happy with the finished track.

Would you be releasing a series of singles only or can we expect an album – how’s that coming along?

Actually my next original track “I Just Wanna Dance” will be released as a single and is set for release within the next few weeks. This song is really fun and upbeat and is about a group of girlfriends having a sleepover and just being themselves.  I co-produced the video for this track which was a great experience. I also just finished in the studio and have 6 more original songs and two covers that are in the production stages, so an album is definitely in the works.

Would it be a departure from your current single or a follow up?

I enjoy making music so much that I try to put all of that fun and energy into my songs, so most of the tracks have an upbeat, dance vibe similar to Fire. Fire has a more urban, edgier feel, especially with Snoop Dogg’s influence, and whilst he isn’t featured on other tracks that is also reflected in some of the other songs. On the whole, the album is all about having fun, enjoying life, and being yourself.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

My next release will be a single, an original track with an accompanying fun video entitled “I Just Wanna Dance” is set for release mid-June, and hopefully I will have an album out at the end of the year if not sooner! One of the lines Snoop Dogg put into the background on Fire is “Sky’s the limit” and my manager thinks that should be the album title. What do you think?

Any plans to hit the road?

I recently performed, actually opened, at Cinco 4 here in Los Angeles, alongside the Janoskians and Sammy Wilk and other amazing artists and guest stars. So I have the bug big time to perform and tour. We are currently working on an itinerary so please check out my social media pages for dates and further information, Twitter and Instagram @SkylersMusic, website and http:/

What else is happening next in Skyler’s world?

I am planning on enjoying the summer break with my friends and perhaps writing a few new songs along the way. Definitely working on a tour and have plans to go back into production on a few more music videos shortly, but hopefully a little down time to enjoy LA.
