Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Hi, thanks for reaching out. We are doing well and keeping busy with shows in preparation for our album release in July.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “No Direction”?
This was a song that Milyn brought to rehearsal. She came up with the hook while driving in traffic. The band wrote the song around her melody. The verses were co-written by North Carolina poet, Mat Gould.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
“I feel like I was simply a vessel for this song. I have moved every few years of my life and always end up back in Alabama so it is a bit of a story, however the chorus came to me so suddenly I have a hard time taking full credit.” -Milyn (vocals/lyrics)
How was the film experience?
We filmed on location in our Airstream in Nashville and worked with filmmaker, Joshua Shoemaker. He has such a great eye and is a delight to work with.
The single comes off your new album Shake That Reputation – what’s the story behind the title?
Our band has seen a lot of incarnations and we are shaking off all of the old and welcoming the new.
How was the recording and writing process?
Ricky and Milyn have always done all the writing but with this record it’s been a time of growth learning how to incorporate Dylan and Christian into the process. Several of the songs were written before the boys (Dylan and Christian) joined the group but they added a much needed flavor to what was already there. All recording took place at 2734 Central with Les Nuby. We recorded half of the record late 2015 over a span of 3 days and finished in 4 days this month.
Did South played a role in your sound?
Yes, a big part of our sound is influenced by the Delta blues and a lot of our songs are about the south. It’s where we come from, it’s in our blood, it’s in our sound.
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
Milyn wrote all of the lyrics and collaborated with Mat Gould on a couple of the songs. Life stories inspire her songs.
