Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Hey Vents, thanks for asking, We’ve been awesome, waking up everyday stoked to play and listen to music and playing in places we’ve never played before for this tour, met some beautiful people who make it even more fucking awesome to play music. So pretty great thanks. How are you?
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Thrasher”?
Yeah, It was the first take and everything was recorded at the same time.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
Yes, I (Kit) was feeling overwhelmingly depressed in my first year of university and a relationship I was in, which in all honesty isn’t who I am or want to be as I’m a mostly very positive and happy dude, so I dropped out of University and wrote Thrasher. It’s a song about three things that helped me through possibly the hardest time in my life; playing guitar, sex and skateboarding. And now I feel like I’m on fire at the moment and wrote 9 of the best songs I’ve ever written in the space of about two weeks and am touring our first EP, but if it hadn’t been for that song Thrasher I’m not sure where I’d be right now. It’s just full of light and Life, pretty powerful stuff man.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Not really, we’re absolutely broke.
Why naming the EP after this track in particular?
It was just a big philosophy of this part in our lives, go fast and commit. If you skate, you might be familiar with this phrase.
How was the recording and writing process?
Really explosive, we did everything in one take, no overdubs and in one day! So that’s why the record has so much energy. The writing process was simply writing the song in a day and play it at the next gig and see if people dig it. And they did!
What was it like to work with Mike Walters and how did that relationship develop?
Well Mike, who is one of the most genuine and wonderful people we have ever met, was perfect because he does all the Maida Vale studio live engineering and for the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury so capturing live performance is his mojo. He did our maida vale stuff and loved how we play heavy rock like blues musicians, which is cool man.
How much did he get to influence the album?
He made us realize how fucking real music is and needs to be to, and really, just awakened us to be even more musically sensitive so that we feel the music on another level, and that’s how it’s been feeling at the moment. Like, on this tour, there’s just something about the music we’re playing now which is just so fucking alive and soulful. Not aggressive, just Alive and we are so happy at any chance we get to play.
Does Fashion plays a role in your music?
We like fashion, it’s art and art, it is Life and more. So, yes it does have a role/purpose in our music. To the extent we wear who we are and who we can be ourselves in, in order to make music and make art.
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
For this EP, the inspiration came from whatever it was that helped us to get through some very, very challenging situations in our personal lives. And what that inspiration and stuff was, was the everlasting love for music, reality, friendship and just simply having a fucking blast. So that inspired the amount of energy on these recordings, the strength and the awesomeness.
Any plans to hit the road?
We’re already on it.
What else is happening next in Kit Trigg’s world?
I’m (Kit) doing a triathlon to donate money to Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital which is quite nerve-wracking and Spending the next couple of weeks together to work on these 9 new fucking killer songs and see if we can get maybe our first album together and maybe welcome the vibe of a bassist which would be amazing because then I can shred more.
