SuperGlu. release their latest track ‘Weekend’, out on Antigen Records, July 1st. The second single from the Essex-based four piece’s recent debut EP ‘Horse’, it was recorded at Punch Studios in Ipswich and produced by George Perks (Newton Faulkner, Steve Harley) and David Pyre (Wild Beasts, Teenage Fanclub). Watch here.
Following the instant success of the ‘Horse’ EP and the first single, ‘Diving Bell’, picked-up by the likes of DiY magazine and Radio 1’s Huw Stephens, these mischievous bubblegum noiseniks have been busy touring the UK and getting seriously stuck into the summer festival circuit, including two rousing Great Escape appearances.
Incorporating the raucous energy of The Fall, Pixies or The Damned, the irresistible pop sensibilities of Supergrass or Blur, the impish sense of humour of Half Man Half Biscuit and the heavenly close harmonies of The Beach Boys, their sound is instantly and deeply infectious.
‘Weekend’ takes us on a hypothetical journey, illustrating the two versions of the same story. With its call and response lyrics, it’s as if the same person is reciting both sides of the same event. “What a way to spend my weekend” quickly morphs into “What a waste of my weekend” and the landscape and scenery that initially inspire awe soon become the target of distaste and disdain as the other side embarks on a full on tantrum.
In ‘Weekend’ we are lifted to new heights as Ben, Krista, Ben and Alex employ vocals soaring as high as the mountains they envisage. Hailing from Manningtree in Essex, SuperGlu formed in the summer of 2014 and launched their live show not long after with a triumphant set at Latitude in 2015, with another set lined -up for Latitude this year.
