Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Not bad. Keeping busy as usual.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Demons”?
Demons is the last track on our EP. One of the last ones that we actually wrote. It’s one of the most fun songs from the EP to play live due to the fact it’s the most technical with a very groovy breakdown.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
Just the feeling when you are stuck in your life and you have all these thoughts circulating in your head but you don’t know what to do for the best. That feeling that you might erupt in a fit of rage when everything gets on top of you. Uplifting eh?!
Any plans to release a video for the single?
We recently released one which you can find at the video top of our Facebook page at http://facebook.com/standaloneuk or on our website http://www.standaloneuk.com. The video is a simple yet effective performance style video. It gives an insight into the band only being a 3 piece but still being able to show the power that a small band can show with all 3 of us interacting and giving off the energy of one of our live shows.
The single comes off your EP Nothing Is Forgotten – why did you guys choose to rework the album?
Many bands release music and have nothing to show for it, then they continue to work on more and more songs until they have about 20 songs that have just gone to waste since no one has heard them. We are proud of all of our songs and didn’t want to move on until they’re actually being heard by more and more people. Therefore a re-release of the EP seemed to be the right step for us. That said, we are still writing songs but they’re are going into the bank which will allow us to work on the songs for longer until the songs are at their best when we plan on releasing them down the line.
What’s the story behind the title?
‘Nothing Is Forgotten’ is a lyric from our first song that we ever wrote as a band ‘Easier Said Than Done’. We sing this line as a 3 part harmony and in our opinion it goes down as the most impactful part of our entire set. “You live you life where nothing is forgotten”, if you flip that around it’s basically saying that in your life everything is remembered, therefore it’s kind of like a calling for people to enjoy life while it lasts and not letting past events get on top of you because at the end of the day you can undo things that have been before.
How was the recording and writing process?
Gavin usually come to my house to demo some ideas, riffs, chords etc. If there’s an idea they get recorded as a demo then shown to Tom and he writes drum beats and shares his ideas of how the song should go. If something is missing or a part needs taking out Tom usually recognises that sort of thing which will make the song better. The recording process is something that can be tedious spending hours on certain parts and hundreds of takes but it is all part and parcel of making the music as best as it can be. Luke records and produces all our music so it gives us that time.
What differences can fans expect?
3 Piece Power. No gimmicks.
Are all the songs based on vengeance and similar topics?
Not necessarily Vengeance, but that feeling of being down trodden and at a crossroads with aspects of life, it’s a positive message though in the end, fighting for what you believe in and trying to have a positive impact on people and society.
Any plans to hit the road?
I think my hand would hurt if I did that. (Luke) We are currently putting some dates together for a mini August tour to coincide with this release then we will see where that takes us from there.
What else is happening next in Stand Alone’s world?
Lots of band meetings (alcohol fueled demoing sessions) and planning our next output of music. We are also putting together some new merchandise. Nothing is forgotten T Shirts are now available to buy from our website. http://www.standaloneuk.com/. We will see you soon at a show hopefully!
