INTERVIEW: Jeri Silverman

How would you classify your music?

Acoustic folk.

Who are some of your top 5 musical influences?

Sting / Regina Spektor / Ani DiFranco / Fleetwood Mac / Bjork.

What do you want fans to take from your music?

I hope the honesty and emotional story of the songs speak for themselves, and that people can relate in a way that inspires connection and reflection within themselves and their relationships.

Can you tell us a bit about your latest album? When will it be released and how does it differ from your previous work?

Latest album is Leaflike – released in 2014; it was my first album. The songs are collected from experiences and feelings taken from my first few years living in New York City.

What do you love and hate about the Music Business?

I love that you can create whatever you want, and share it live any night of the week. The challenge is the constant hustle to put yourself out there, always searching for new opportunities.

What is the best concert you have been to? What do you like most about playing live?

Fleetwood Mac at Madison Square Garden.

I love playing live because it is where the songs truly come alive – in the mixture of the present moment with the band and the musicians. Each night, every song and every crowd is unique, and that energy is invigorating.

Is there a song on this latest CD that stands out as your personal favorite, and why?

Anywhere but Here – it’s a song that’s gone through a lot of evolution and really speaks deeply to my personal journey.

How have you evolved as an artist over the last few years? What made you decide to come back into the music business?

Since releasing the EP, I’ve put a band together and am creating songs that feel full and powerful, with more of a rock edge

If you could meet, play a gig, co-write a song, have dinner, get drunk with any band or artist (dead or alive) who would it be?

Ani DiFranco – any day!

So tell us what’s next?

Next up is making plans to record a new full length album, and hopefully a tour!
