Choreography, the third album from acclaimedU.K. artist Bright Light Bright Light—the solo project of vocalist and producer Rod Thomas, is set for release July 15. Watch the video for first single “All In The Name” featuring Elton John, directed by Thomas and choreographed by in-demand movement director Steven Hoggett, here. Thomas will make his late night television debut tonight on the U.K.’s “The Graham Norton Show” with Elton John, performing “All In The Name.”
To celebrate the release of Choreography, Thomas will play select dates in the U.S. this fall, including New York’s Rough Trade and Los Angeles’ The Satellite. Tickets go on sale May 25, see below for full tour routing.
Inspired by films from Big Trouble in Little China to RomyandMichele, Amelie to A Bout de Soufflé, Choreography finds Thomas collaborating with longtime friends including John, Alan Cumming, Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears, Ana Matronic and Del Marquis, “The Wiz Live”’s Mykal Kilgore, and more.
Thomas recorded and produced the album entirely on his own in London and New York. “I knew I wanted to call it Choreography and thought about what it was that interested me about it; the unison, how dance makes you feel,” he says of the recording process. “I thought about dancing being banned in New York and about how good it makes you feel. I thought about choreographing my life in London and New York. I DJ a lot, my job is to make people dance and I love watching people dance. That was important for me for the record.”
The new music follows two whirlwind years since the release of Bright Light Bright Light’s 2014 album Life Is Easy, which saw Thomas touring the world with Elton John, playing his own headline dates across Europe and North America, moving to New York and more.
Thomas, born in Wales and based in both London and New York, formed Bright Light Bright Light in 2010 and has since released two LPs, 2012’s Make Me Believe In Hope and 2014’s Life is Easy.
