17 year old UK singer/songwriter Declan McKenna releases his EP, LIAR today. The EP is available on all digital sales providers. LIAR includes his breakout single “Brazil,” and “Paracetamol,” as well as two new tracks, “Bethlehem” and “Howl.”
Declan recently performed multiple shows at the 2016 SXSW Music Festival to a supportive response. NPR noted that “he’s already attracting international attention for songs that are thoughtful and socially conscious well beyond his years” while Milk Crater observed, “an indie protégé, this kid is only going to get bigger and bigger.” He followed SXSW up with a sold out show at Rockwood Music Hall in New York City. In support of the EP, McKenna will make his solo US TV debut on Conan on May 25.
Declan was first noticed in the UK for his self-released track, “Brazil,” a catchy song that criticizes FIFA for awarding the 2014 World Cup tournament to Brazil while ignoring the country’s impoverished population. Named by NME and others as one of the ‘best songs of the past year,’ “Brazil” has been gaining traction in the United States. “Brazil” is currently heading toward Top 15 on the Mediabase Alternative Radio chart and is approaching Top 10 at Triple A Radio.
Declan was raised in Hertfordshire UK, a multi-instrumentalist by the time he was a teenager, he began releasing tracks on his bandcamp page when “Brazil” began to attract viral followers in January 2015. He’s since performed at Glastonbury, after winning their Emerging Talent Competition and is confirmed for other festivals this summer, including The Great Escape, Field Day, Latitude, Outside Lands and Reeperbahn Festival among others.
