Hi Omar, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
I’m great, thank you for having me!
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Twisted”?
Twisted is a rhythmic song, the inspiration behind it was based on a 4 year on and off relationship I had that ended badly.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
Well my ex had accused me of cheating on her and was insecure in our relationship and the arguments we had kinda influenced the writing and style that I envisioned for this kind of topic.
How was the film experience?
Though the director and videographer were both really great, I envisioned a different edit for this video, Overall everything went smoothly, and above all I’m just really humbled that I get to work in this field with the big boys. All my hard work is starting to pay off.
The single comes off your new EP Back To Me what’s the story behind the title?
“Back to Me” was the first song I wrote for the EP and we kind of just decided on calling it that because the whole EP leads up to that song. Its really a story based on the 4 year relationship I had, starting with “Kiss in the Rain,” and ending with “Back to Me.” You could check out the songs on my YouTube channel, Soundcloud, Spotify, or purchase the EP on iTunes. But if you do get a chance to listen, I’d love your feedback!
How was the recording and writing process?
“Twisted” was a cool song because it’s one of the only songs of mine that I haven’t produced. I got this beat and I immediately knew that I wanted B. Wash on the project. He got into the studio with me to write it and we just vibed out. We had the hook of the song done in literally 20 minutes from the start of the session. He’s a super talented artist! Make sure to check him out as well!
Does California plays a role in your music?
I think, if anything, California takes away from the original sound that I wanted to achieve. I started out in a pop music vibe and then I got into Urban music, rock music, rap and an acoustic indie genre. California affects my music more today than it did when I was 15, singing twisted in the vocal booth.
I am guessing all the songs are based on personal experiences? Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
Like I mentioned before, I was in a 4 year on and off relationship. My ex got distracted by another guy and left me. No shade though, I still love her, but not in that way anymore. That really fueled all my music for a long time. But I’m older and have matured because of it. Everything happens for a reason!
Any plans to hit the road?
I would love to go touring again, but I won’t be able to this June because it’s Ramadan! I’m getting ready to buckle down for the month of fasting that’s coming up. After that’s over, I’d love to tour. It’s honestly the best part of music for me.
What else is happening next in Omar’s world?
Well I’m hoping that I can finish a new concept project that I have written. I’m gonna be up in Disneyland with my family this weekend so after this I’ll be ready to get into the studio and start making some magic!
