Hi Alex, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
I have been doing very well! Working hard and playing all the time. Thank you for asking.
So you are working on a new single – can you tell us more about it?
The entirety of the first record was written for acoustic and later adapted to full band, so this time around we’re taking a whole new approach and writing collectively. As far as my part goes, I’ve been in a great state of mind for the better part of a year now and you’ll definitely hear it in the music.
What events get to inspire your songs and lyrics?
I spent the latter half of 2015 gallivanting across the US and Central America in search of new stories and more meaningful music. Unbeknownst to me, the inspiration I so eagerly craved only came after returning home to loving friends and family.
Any plans to then release a video for the track?
It’s safe to say a video will accompany a song or two by the end of the year.
How has been the recording and writing process?
The writing is the easy part. Much of our energy has been spent finding the perfect producer for future releases.
What draw you into Folk and Americana?
I think the authenticity is what originally caught my attention. I fell in love with folk the second I heard Ray LaMontagne’s “Trouble” in a Traveler’s Insurance commercial. Over the past couple of years, my love for folk has combined with 60’s and 70’s soul and Motown into whatever you’d call our current sound.
You have had the chance of playing with some great names in the industry – what have you learned from these experiences?
Humility is the mark of those who have no one to impress. Having the great fortune to meet and play alongside some of my favorite artists has taught me that, above all else, competency is a fast moving target
Does the new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?
We aren’t quite yet ready to record just yet, but a new album is in the works, don’t you worry.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
It’s hard to accurately judge time frames this early on, but the end of 2016 is a safe bet.
Any plans to hit the road?
I’m hitting the road this June for an east coast tour with an incredibly talented guy from Nashville, RJ Bracchitta.
What else is happening next in Alex Guthrie’s world?
The more we get into upbeat soul music, the more we want to round out the sound with more people. Our most recent addition to the band is an unbelievable organ player, Adam Holliday. If all goes according to plan, we’ll add some horns and maybe some background singers before too long.
Hi, Miss Kimmora. How Are You? I’m fine blessed can’t complain You Are A Model …
