INTERVIEW: Jaron Strom

Hi Jaron, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

How’s it going VENTS! I’m doing pretty amazing and just excited about the release of “Truth” and the impact my song can have on the listeners. Thanks so much for interviewing me!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Truth”?

Well let me start by saying that “Truth” is my first original song and music video released to the world. The song means a lot to me and was written about a real situation with a friend which makes it even more real to me and close to my heart. This song is my first opportunity to show the world my art and passion and to make a good impression.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

Yes this song is based on true events of a close friend going through a tough time. In the video he is trapped in a controlling and manipulative relationship. This is his moment to possibly break free and tell everybody his Truth.

How was the film experience?

The film was so fun to make! Finding the gritty locations and creating the custom lighting with the video director Hudson Stafford were my favorite parts. I wanted the video to portray real life but also have a dreamy non realistic side to it as well. It can be stressful wanting everything to go “right” in a video shoot sometimes but seeing the results in the end is such an amazing moment.

Do you take a different approach when you are covering someone else’s music than when you are writing your own?

I’ll be honest, when I’m covering a song I try to relate the words and song to my life and my own emotions. This allows the cover to be transformed into my own style but to still reflect the original artistry from the singer who wrote it.

What’s been like to work with Anthony Hamilton and how did that relationship develop?

Becoming a friend with Anthony Hamilton has for sure been a major highlight in my life. He supports and loves my voice and music. The few times I’ve sat and wrote music with him has just been like a dream come true. Sharing the creative process like that with somebody you’ve looked up to as an artist for so long is surreal to me.

How much has he influence you as a musician?

Anthony inspires me more than he knows. He showed me at a younger age that you can make new music from your soul but also reflect soul and Motown and let that sound resonate in your music as well. He also has a great personality. He’s always smiling, positive and very kind to people around him, and shows lots of humility.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yep this song is just the start. I plan to release another few singles which will lead up to an EP.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

We plan to possibly release another single called “Freedom” in June followed by the album in July but I’m not sure about a name for the album yet.

Would all the songs deal with manipulative relationships and that kind of topics?

No, I want the album to touch many different areas and relatable scenarios that people as well as myself have been through. One of the songs is about waking up slow beside somebody you care about so much that they give you Freedom. Another is upbeat and just about living life the way you want and doing what makes you feel good. This album is meant to touch many people and just make you feel happy and encouraged, or to give you chills because it’s something emotional you can relate to and know you’re not alone.

Any plans to hit the road?

We are working on tour dates so make sure to check out my site at jaronstrommusic.com to keep updated.

What else is happening next in Jaron Strom’s world?

For me I’m always working on building my skills and knowledge, so not only am I recording and releasing music but I’m also building my skills with marketing, collaborating with other artist and performing. I’m gonna change the world. Just watch. 😉
