INTERVIEW: Christian O

Hi Christian, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Really good, and really busy, thanks for having me!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Better Than You”?

It’s more than just another break-up song, it’s really about self-empowerment. “Better Than You” isn’t about ego, it’s about knowing that putting yourself first is okay. Breakups can be liberating in this way, if we looked at it from this angle more often we could heal faster, like hey, this is a good thing!

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

Every break-up I’ve experienced, every break-up I’ve witnessed.

How was the film experience?

Lots of fun. The dancers in the video are so talented, it was beautiful to see them transform my words into these intricate movements.

The single comes off your new EP A Little Bit of Everything – what’s the story behind the title?

I don’t discriminate when it comes to music, from 90s classic rock to the latest hip-hop, I love it all. The EP is a reflection of that.

How was the recording and writing process?

Most of it was inspired by my poetry, so we always had that as a foundation. We all have a great time creating together, the music happens organically for us, chemistry is key.

Does LA plays a role in this album?

LA is a different kind of adventure, and the energy here is so different — all the dreamers, you just feel it. It really inspires me.

So can we expect a very eclectic record? Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

It’s such a mash-up of so many things. So yes! My poetry, travels, experiences, revisiting old music that I love, pop culture, film — are always inspiration.

Any plans to hit the road?

Definitely, later this year is what we’re thinking.

What else is happening next in Christian O’s world?

So much! We’re in pre-production for my next music video, it’s a song about my travels actually, “Wild Kids,” and I’m in the studio recording my first LP. It’s all been such an interesting ride so far, I’m enjoying it.
