Social networking app CreateGate brings the best of Dallas’ creative scene to your fingertips (launches May 16)‏

In short CreateGate is a social network for Dallas creatives. The iOS app was developed locally to support and highlight the most credible native talent. From photographers to designers to models, actors and even culinary artists, this new app is curated by trusted tastemakers as being the most reliable mobile directory for discovering the top Creatives in Dallas, Fort Worth, and Denton.

For the Creative: CreateGate allows you to present a portfolio of your work or lifestyle photography, sell your items directly to local consumers, promote your events & generate a professional resume.

“We are not trying to replace your Instagram or Facebook account. CreateGate is an extension of it, but for your artistic use only. We want to enhance the artists’ reach to the local consumer, while keeping the main news feed filled with beautiful, aesthetically pleasing posts…as opposed to your best friend’s kid’s vomit taking up prime real-estate on your feed. That always makes my thumb want to scroll a little faster.” – Merrick Porcheddu, founder of CreateGate.

For the Venues: We partner with the most unique venues in town to show off our city. Venues join CreateGate to promote their events & showcase their spaces in a gallery of lifestyle photography.

For the Public: Find & book talent from most trusted source in Dallas; shop local goods by native Creatives; discover things to do in DFW

To ensure the quality of the platform and the best user experience, the app will launch as a curated platform with creatives, venues, and more invited by our team of culture experts to be a part of CreateGate.

Any Creative or Venue may request an invite to join, however our curatorial committee are the first to approve who joins the app – and the first to send out invites! Anyone can join as a Fanatic and browse the network, but to showcase on the platform as an Artist or Venue you must have a referral code to join. Among our group of culture experts is our savvy “creation squad,” consisting of Matt Alexander, Founder of Imprint; Erica Felicella, Executive Director of Art Conspiracy; Iris Candelaria, Executive Director of Art Love Magic; Lauren Smart, contributor to Arts & Culture Texas Magazine; Austin Mann, renowned photographer and founder of WELD; Lee Escobedo, art critic at PATRON Magazine, Arts & Culture Texas Magazine, & Berlin Art Link; Laura Allen, Founder of Walk the Light Arts Festival, and more are joining the cause everyday. Any of these individuals have an invite only code, which they can extend to local artists & venues for a limited time only.

CreateGate is the brainchild of Merrick Porcheddu, who coincidently was the co-creator of the annual Artist vs Architect events. You may have seen her around at Common Desk (a coworking space and hub for several Dallas startups) as she was also the former General Manager for the last 3 years. Merrick left Common Desk last November to focus solely on CreateGate. She has currently raised to date $465,000 for the future roll out of her brainchild. Of that, $210,000 has been raised specifically for the launch of the iOS app only. CreateGate is backed by Unbridled Solutions, Photomadic, FISH Technologies, & United Properties Southwest.

CreateGate plans to roll out an editorial magazine (both digital and hard back) later this year. The magazine will be celebrating some of the most influential creatives of DFW. Hard copies will be available in limited qualities at Dallas’ coolest boutiques and creative spaces. These select Creatives will be celebrated among others featured in the app at the grand launch party (additional details TBA). Lastly, CreateGate does plan to expand to new cities later this year – Austin being first on it’s list, naturally.

20% of CreateGate’s profits are donated to an arts related charity. For 2016, the funds are earmarked for Art Con, a local nonprofit community that conspires to bring artists and musicians together.

The CreateGate app be available on May 16, 2016 at 9 a.m. CST.
