INTERVIEW: Snir Yamin

Hi Snir, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

A: I’m great! Thank you for having me today!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “You and I”?

A: Sure. “You and I” is my first official single out off my upcoming EP. This song is kind of different from what I’m using to create. I’m not a musician of one genre and this song definitely proves it. Till today, I mostly created something between acoustic to folk sounds. You and I brings the “Poppy” side out of me and I truly love the outcome.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

A: Yes. You and I was written as part of the submission process to the soundtrack of the movie “Paper Towns”. “Paper Towns” it’s a movie that was created off a Novel by John Green. I read the book and fell in love with the story. When I heard of the submission process I immediately drafted this song and later made the necessary correction to fit the requirements. As part of my work in the music industry, I frequently writing songs for other musicians too. I think that this fact helped me a lot to write You and I that was inspired by other’s people love story.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

A: Sure! I’m arriving in New York this May and we are scheduled to shoot the official music video for “You and I”. Stay tuned!

The single comes off your new album Concrete City – what’s the story behind the title?

A: The title “Concrete City” describes most of the things that influence me in life. I’m madly in love with NYC, If you are following me on social media you cannot ignore this fact. My first EP was called “Urban Stories” and I looked for a title that will continue the vibe of my first EP. That’s how and why it came up to be “Concrete City”, as New York is most of my inspiration in life.

How was the recording and writing process?

A: As mentioned above, I really love the love story in the Paper Town Novel so I really enjoyed writing the lyrics. Usually, I’m struggling with the lyrics, as I’m a person of music first. But this time it came through smoothly. I work on You and I with my producer, Josh Giunta at Sweet Sounds Studio in New York. We have an amazing connection which I think it’s crucial when working on material like the ones found on Concrete City.

Does Israel play a role in your music?

A: Yes, and no. I grew up in Israel and my music career was started in Israel. But I got my first exposure overseas. I have an amazing fan base in Israel, they are the reason for all my travels back and forth. I owe them as they were there for me when I first started. Israel has a small music scene and many talented individuals. I didn’t choose the overseas path, it happened to chose me so I went with it. Israel will always be part of me and I’m still touring it once a year.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

A: As mentioned earlier, You and I was inspired by the love story of Margo Roth Spiegelman and Quentin “Q” Jacobsen.

Any plans to hit the road?

A: Yes! I’m heading to the US on late May to start touring the east coast and by next year I will cover the west coast too.

What else is happening next in Snir Yamin’s world?

A: I’m working hard on releasing Concrete City on upcoming June. After that I’m planning to get in the studio and track my first LP album! Exciting times!
