KCETLink Media Group, which includes Southern California’s KCET public television service and the Link TV national satellite network, announced today the U.S. television premiere of SOUND TRACKER, a new world music series from Finland that follows host Sami Yaffa to locations around the earth where rhythm and melody are essential to the cultures. SOUND TRACKER premieres the first of 14 one-hour episodes with the series debut set in Jamaica on Weds., May 11 at 8 p.m. PT in Southern California on KCET and at 8 p.m. ET/PT nationwide on Link TV (available on DirecTV channel 375 and DISH network 9410).
The 2014 Finnish Emmy Award-winning series will follow Yaffa, a musician with more than 30 years of experience having played with bands like Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, travelling to the far corners of the earth in search of the planet’s rich and remote music traditions and cultures – while they are still here. The series, which joins KCETLink’s current slate of multicultural music-themed programming including ARTBOUND PRESENTS: STUDIO A, REAL SCENES, and BORDER BLASTER, will take viewers around the globe in search of answering the question “What is it in the power of music that can brings us all together and at it’s best, change the world?”
Yaffa’s international pursuit of cultural soundscapes on SOUND TRACKER recently earned a nomination for the International Festival BANFF to compete for the Rockie Awards in Arts and Performance category.
