ATO Records is excited to announce the release of a deluxe, re-mastered re-issue of Mike Doughty‘s Haughty Melodic, the album that Doughty calls “the spine of my career”.
Available for the first time on vinyl since 2005, Haughty Melodic has been fully re-mastered from the original tapes by longtime Doughty producer Kevin Salem and includes two new bonus tracks from the Haughty Melodic era: “All The Time” and “I’m Still Drinking In My Dreams”, the latter you can listen + share HERE today courtesy of Billboard.
“I was surprised to discover, when I listened to [“I’m Still Drinking In My Dreams”] years later, that it’s one of my favorite tracks from those sessions, and whatever rationale Dan Wilson and I had for leaving it off totally escapes me,” Doughty explained. “One of those things where you’re making a record and you stop seeing the forest for the trees–like, maybe there were too many songs in D major already or something. It was loony to exclude it.”
Doughty worked closely with Wilson (Adele, John Legend, Taylor Swift) on this record, co-writing many of its songs including “Busting Up A Starbucks” and “Tremendous Brunettes”. The new CD and LP packaging includes liner notes penned by Mike Doughty himself, which tell the story of recording the album and a chance meeting with Dave Matthews backstage at Bonnaroo, who also later went on to sing on the record.
To be released on June 10th, the album can be pre-ordered HERE. Doughty is currently working on an album of new material he plans to release in late 2016.
