INTERVIEW: Chief Ghoul

Hi Lee, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’ve been doing very well. Stoked to get a band behind me!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single &Let Me In&?

It’s one of those rare songs that I started writing and finished in pretty good time. I think those songs stay more fresh in my mind. Not every song has to be in a minor key… I keep trying to tell myself that at least. There will be more songs that vibe like “Let Me In” to come.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

I did the whole cliche meeting an amazing girl thing.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Not at the moment. We’re just focusing on getting music together as a band. Im definitely not opposed to doing one though if the right opportunity arises.

The single comes off your new album Damned – what’s the story behind the title?

Like The Butcher said, its a good word.

How was the recording and writing process?

My writing process has always remained the same. I lock myself in my house until good things come out. The recording process was great. It was my second time recording with a really talented guy by the name of Nicholas Layman. He did my last release as well titled Venom EP. He works out of a place called Goldsmith Studios here in Louisville and I couldnt be more pleased with the work he does.

How has Louisville influence your music?

I grew up going to shows here. There are a lot of good people here listening to and making a lot of good music. I dont think people realize how rooted in music Louisville actually is. The combo of grit and beautiful countryside really has a way of inspiring.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

Anywhere and everywhere. Sometimes the most random things inspire me and sometimes itll be more common things. Thats the beauty of it, at any moment a song can come to you and once that happens, there’s a journey to be had with that song.

Any plans to hit the road?

Oh yeah, we are getting those plans together right now. Some solo touring and some as a band.

What else is happening next in Chief Ghoul’s world?

Im not sure and i’m completely fine with that. I like it that way. I will always write, that i’m sure of.
