Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Hi! We’re great, really happy with our new AA single that’s just come out!
Can you talk to us more about your latest singles “Mirror” and “Soft Skin”?
They’re some of the first tracks that we jammed out as a band, which is how we write pretty much everything now. We’re really happy to be able to put them out with Bloc Music and being able to do it on vinyl is pretty special. It’s really nice to have such a physical manifestation of what we’ve done.
Did any event in particular inspired you to write these songs?
Not any event in particular. The songs contrast each other though; Mirror has a sense of regret about it, whereas Soft Skin is about a more carefree attitude.
You’ve already shared a video for “Mirror”, any plans for “Soft Skin”?
We have a video for Soft Skin that we made with Beth Chalmers (bethchalmers.com) that’s due out pretty soon!
How was the recording and writing process?
The writing process was cool because these are some of the first tracks that we wrote by just jamming out ideas together. Previously we had sort of composed tracks in a computer, but these were some of the first that we wrote in the way that we do it now. Recording was a great experience too. We recorded the tracks at Chem 19 with Jamie Savage who was really great to work with. He has such an ear for getting the right sounds and things and we were quite meticulous with it.
Does Radiohead play a role in your music?
We get a few comparisons to them and other bands. They’re a band that we really love and who have created some of our favourite albums so of course they influence us and what we create, but we never sit down and say “right guys, let’s make a song that sounds like Radiohead”. The songs contain an amalgamation of all our collective influences, musical and nonmusical and what you hear is an expression of that.
Does this double track release mean we can expect a new album how’s that coming along?
We’re not currently working on an album but we have been very busy lately writing a bunch of new songs, some of which we are going to debut at the release show for the AA side at The Hug and Pint on April 29th. We actually recorded four tracks during the session we did in Chem 19 so we have the other two currently in the pipeline though we have no definitive plans for them yet.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
We’ll hopefully have some new music out before the end of the year.
Any plans to hit the road?
We’re currently in the very early stages of planning a UK tour this September/October.
Our next show is the Soft Skin/Mirror AA side release at the Hug and Pint on April 29th alongside The Vegan Leather which we are super excited about. We’re also playing Brew at the Bog this year which should be a blast taking place on the 3rd and 4th of June.
What else is happening next in AmatrArt’s world?
Lately it’s all been about writing new songs for us, and now that we have some under our belt we’re all rehearsals for our big launch show. We’re looking forward to playing a lot of shows over Summer too.
